Last updated: 5 September 2026
What it is about
You must apply for a primary school place for your child even if they already attend a nursery attached to a school.
What is involved
The application process and the allocation of school places are managed entirely by your local council, not centrally by the government.
Timeframes
Important: We cannot confirm a single national deadline here yet. While some dates (like January 15th) are commonly used across England, your local council sets its own specific deadlines and processes.
You must contact your local council directly to find out exactly when applications open and close in your area.
What you benefit from
Securing a place at a local primary school for your child’s education.
